Join us as we honor our outgoing and incoming Chairman, recognize our volunteers of the year, and crown our 2010 Austinite of the Year.
The Austin Chamber of Commerce has named Lance Armstrong, cancer survivor, champion cyclist and Founder and Chairman of LIVESTRONG, as the 2010 Austinite of the Year.
A fixture in the Austin, Texas community since 1990, Armstrong's impact on this vibrant town is significant. In 1997, facing testicular cancer and not yet knowing his fate, he established LIVESTRONG, a non-profit organization that serves people affected by cancer and empowers them to take action. This marked the beginning of his role as an advocate for cancer survivors and a world representative for the cancer community.
The record-holding, seven-time winner of the Tour de France is also an entrepreneur with successful business ventures in Austin that include: Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop and Capital Sports and Entertainment. In addition, Armstrong's influence continues to affect the healthy lifestyle that has kept Austin ranked as one of the most active cities year after year, as well as infrastructure developments that allow for this lifestyle to be possible.
